The Siemens Interface Module (IM) is the control centerpiece of a Distributed I/O system, primarily the SIMATIC ET 200 series. Its fundamental role is to establish and manage the high-speed data exchange between a central PLC (controller) and the remote I/O station where the module is housed. It acts as the gateway or “head station” for the decentralized I/O modules (Digital, Analog, Technology) connected to it.
The Interface Module acts as a PROFINET IO Device or PROFIBUS DP Slave.
