This method is used to reduce the high inrush starting current of large motors. The relay controls the sequencing and timing of three contactors: the Main, the Star (Wye), and the Delta.

Star (Wye) Connection: The relay initially closes the Main and Star contactors for a set time (the starting time).

Delta Connection: After the delay, the relay opens the Star contactor and then closes the Delta contactor, allowing the motor to run at full speed.
