Product Advantages
The NI PXI-5402 is a powerful and flexible waveform generator, offering several significant advantages:
- High-Quality Signal Generation: It provides exceptional analog output performance with low noise and distortion. The software-selectable analog filter helps suppress high-frequency signal images, ensuring a clean output.
- Precise Control: With a frequency resolution of 0.355 μHz and the use of DDS, it offers high-frequency accuracy and stability for repetitive waveforms.
- Seamless PXI Integration: It takes full advantage of the PXI platform’s integrated timing and synchronization capabilities. Using NI-TClk technology, you can achieve sub-nanosecond synchronization with other PXI instruments.
- Flexibility: It can generate a variety of standard waveforms and also supports arbitrary waveform generation. The module also allows for phase adjustment and waveform summing, which is useful for complex signal creation.
Applications
The PXI-5402 is suitable for a diverse range of test, measurement, and control applications that require a stable and precise signal source. Common applications include:
- Automated Test Equipment (ATE): Generating stimulus signals for testing electronic components and circuits.
- Communications: Creating modulated signals for testing RF and communication systems.
- Sensor Simulation: Simulating a wide range of sensor outputs for closed-loop control systems and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testing.
- Research and Development: Providing a highly accurate signal source for various experiments in physics, engineering, and other scientific fields.
Important Considerations
When using the PXI-5402, keep the following in mind to ensure optimal performance:
- Software and Driver Support: The device requires the NI-FGEN instrument driver to be installed on your system.
- Cabling: Use high-quality, shielded cables with the correct impedance (typically 50 Ω) to prevent signal degradation and unwanted noise.
- Synchronization: For multi-module synchronization, use the PXI backplane’s trigger lines and ensure your software is correctly configured to use NI-TClk technology.
- Waveform Generation Modes: While the PXI-5402 is a function generator, it also supports arbitrary waveform generation. It’s important to understand the capabilities and limitations of each mode for your specific application.
